"If you are looking for an excellent and responsive well informed
tour guide in Istanbul… Hakan Gurger, proprietor of Guides of
Istanbul is your answer!
This summer, my husband and I traveled through Eastern Europe,
ending up in Istanbul, which turned out to be the highlight of our
trip. It’s not only because it’s a beautiful city, but we were
fortunate to find Hakan as our guide. His enthusiasm, knowledge of
history, religions, and passion for showing us his city made us say
he’s one of the best guides we’ve experienced anywhere.
Another reason to select one of Hakan’s “VIP Tours” is there’s no
waiting in lines…so you maximize your experience. And his custom
Mercedes vans are super comfortable with expert drivers, like
Mustafa, who was always prompt, patient and made our journey in busy
Istanbul traffic, safe and pleasant. Also we used Hakan’s 24-Hour
Concierge Service for our restaurant reservations, all of which were
excellent. So many restaurants, too little time! We relied on Hakan
to make better recommendations than our hotel concierge desk. And
that paid off. Each restaurant was outstanding with local culinary
delights, and perhaps best, on arrival, we were always escorted to
the best table in the house!
Hakan, thank you again for everything! We’ll definitely be back to
Turkey with our family. Also we’ll highly recommend you and your
‘Guides of Istanbul’ to our friends and, especially those who want
to enjoy the best of Istanbul, like the locals do!
Warm regards,"

Basilica Cistern:
The
Basilica Cistern, also
called the Yerebatan Sarayi
or Yerebatan Sarnici, is the
largest of several hundred ancient cisterns that still lie beneath
the city of Istanbul, Turkey.
This
cathedral-sized cistern is an underground chamber of 140 by 70
metres, capable of holding 80,000 cubic metres of water. The large
space is broken up by a forest of 336 marble columns each 9 metres
high.
At
the far end of the Cistern, there are two heads of Medusa which are
put upside down or horizontal. The Medusa Heads are taken from an
ancient Pagan site but they complement the pillars very beautifully
and add a different taste to the building.
To
help you get acquainted with Istanbul before your arrival, we have
added detailed information along with great photographs of over 20
sights of this extraordinary city.
